Born and raised in Fort Frances, Wayne helped lead the Muskies to the provincial gold medal here

in 1989 before starring at Lake Superior State University between 1991-1995, where he won two

national championships.

Each year the Central Collegiate Hockey Associatopn (CCHA) recognizes performance with a series of awards.

Wayne won the CCHA's MVP in tournament award in 1995.

In 1993, he was a supplemental draft pick of the New York Rangers.

Wayne also played professionally for teams in the International Hockey League, the East Coast Hockey League,

and the Colonial Hockey League. His last stop was with the Rockford Ice Hogs of the United Hockey League

in 1999-2000.

The Rockford IceHogs of the United Hockey League announced last week former Muskie Wayne Strachan has

joined the team for the rest of this season. Strachan is a huge offensive threat in the UHL, having led the

league in goals scored last season (57) and was second in points overall (128) to linemate Jason Firth.

He also finished in the top five in the league in assists, power-play goals, short-handed tallies, shots, and plus/minus.

"This is a guy who scored 57 goals last year in this league," said IceHogs head coach Dale DeGray.

"Wayne's a pure goal scorer who should contribute immediately. You can get lucky and score six, seven, or eight

goals in a season but not 57."I look forward to seeing what he can do for us," he added.
