Jon Gustafson

Jon Gustafson played his entire child hood goaltending career with the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association.  He played for numerous local rep teams and represented Fort Frances on many regional pee wee, bantam and midget teams.  Jon back stopped the Fort Frances High School Muskies to the1986 Gold Medal.  In the finals versus Toronto’s St. Mike’s Double Blues, Jon turned away 50 of 51 shots.

Jon went on to play junior hockey in Stratford, Ontario with the Jr. Cullitons of the OPJHL, excelling as their starting goaltender.   He earned recognition as the league’s goal tending MVP and a hockey scholarship at Colorado College followed the next year.

Jon spent four years, 1987-91, with the Colorado College Tigers hockey team, playing the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.  Jon was a WCHA and academic All American and a Rodman Award winner.

After graduating from Colorado College with a business degree in economics, Jon’s   professional hockey career started with the Richmond Renegades (ECHL).  He moved on to play for St. John’s Maple Leafs (AHL), Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Dallas Freeze (CHL), Reno Renegades (WCHL), San Francisco Spiders (IHL) and the San Jose Rhinos (RHI).

1996, the San Jose Rhinos won the Roller Hockey International championship in the old Montreal Forum and Jon was named MVP.  This was the last major sporting event to be held in Montreal’s old Forum, and Jon’s last game as a pro.

Jon was offered the position of Vice President and General Manager of the San Jose Rhinos roller hockey club the next season.  After managing the San Jose Rhinos, Jon was hired to work with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, first on special projects and promotions aimed to develop hockey in northern California, then with HP Pavilion Management, the Shark’s home, practice and game development facilities.

Today, Jon Gustafson is the Executive Director and General Manager for Sharks Ice (San Jose, Fremont and Oakland) which is a subsidiary company of the San Jose Sharks and Silicon Valley Sports and Entertainment.  Along with being the home of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, the facilities provide hundreds of hours of ice time, development programs for skating and hockey for all ages, and hockey leagues throughout northern California.

Jon lives in San Jose, California with wife Stacy, and his son and future goaltender, Luke.
