Ray Frederick

Goalie Ray Frederick played five games for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1954-55. He was best known as one of the top amateur backstoppers of his day and also attained some success in the minors.

Born in Fort Frances, Ontario, Frederick first made a name for himself with the local West Enders before joining the Hamilton Lloyds of the OHA for the 1945-46 season. The talented youngster ventured next to Western Canada to play two years with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the MJHL and the senior Edmonton Flyers.

In the early 1950s, Frederick returned east to play senior hockey. During this time he enjoyed his finest years with the Ottawa Senators. In 1952-53 he led the Quebec League with 60 appearances then recorded nine shutouts the next year. Both years he was selected to the league's second all-star team. In 1954-55 he was recalled by the Chicago Black Hawks where he played five games. After his brief NHL stint, Frederick spent four-years playing senior hockey all over Canada before retiring in 1959.
