 Dave Allison,  was signed as a free agent by Montreal in 1979 when the team was in the middle of winning four Stanley Cups in a row. 

Dave and his brother Mike once practiced together when Dave was with the Habs for a few games, and the two were together again briefly when Mike was traded to the Leafs and Dave was a walk-on in training camp hoping to make a good impression.

After retiring, Dave became coach of the P.E.I. Senators, Ottawa's farm team of the AHL, and was made head coach for 25 games during the 1995-96 season.  

Dave Allison was hired as the first head coach in Iowa Stars history on May 26, 2005, and led the club to a 41-31-1-7 record and a berth the Calder Cup Playoffs in its inaugural season. He joined the Stars from the Borderland Thunder of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL), where he was head coach for the past three seasons, cumulating an 87-44-11-6 record (.645) in his hometown of Fort Frances, Ontario. Allison has been a part of four expansion franchises in his career: Albany in the IHL, 1990; Grand Rapids in the IHL, 1996; Fort Wayne in the UHL, 1999, and was named Coach of the Year in the ECHL in 1989-90 with Virginia, earning a record of 36-19-6. Players of note that he has developed and coached include Pavol Demitra, Chris Gratton, Brett Lindros, Chad Kilger and Ville Peltonen, among others. A veteran of 10 seasons as a defenseman in the pros, spent mostly with the development affiliates of three of the most successful organizations in hockey -- the Montreal Canadiens, the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He won the Turner Cup in 1987 with Muskegon as a player assistant and served as captain for Halifax in 1988-89. Allison served as interim head coach for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators for 25 games in 1995-96. 

Allison also took an amateur Scouting position with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
